5th Annual Cricket Club Race Night

The 5th Annual Chesterfield Cricket Club Race Night will be held at the Olde House (ex-Trading Post) on Friday March 23rd from 19.15-Midnight. Tickets are £5 each available from Steve Franks (tel.557059) or Linda Slater (tel.823930), there will be a selection of freshly filled rolls and chips. If you are interested in sponsoring a Horse (£3) or a Race (£25) please contact Steve Franks.

Cricket Club AGM

At a well attended AGM on Thurs 23rd November it was revealed that Simon Lacey was stepping down as 1st Team Captain in an effort to revive his own performances on the pitch, he remains very much committed to CCC and is succeeded by Andy Brown as Club Captain. Tim Kirk has also decided to step down after 2 years as 2nd Team Captain, the club was not yet in a position to reveal who will be the 2nds Captain for Season 2007, finally Mick Davison will continue in his role as 3rd Team Captain. The club also announced 3 important signings to strengthen the calibre of the 1st team. Michael Deane has joined from Denby, Pete Camm after a year out has joined formerley of Staveley CC and Andrew Gate ex-DCCC has also been signed to bolster the batting. Adam Whiteley is the only person who confirmed that they will not be playing for CCC in 2007. The club will also get 5th pick in next year's draft system having lost the services of Ben France who was released by DCCC at the end of the 2006 Season. It was also announced that DCCC will be back for the Chesterfield Cricket festival in 2007 playing a 4-day and 1-day game as they did this year. Wednesday-Saturday July 25th-28th 2007 v Somerset Liverpool Victoria County Championship – 4 Day Match, Sunday July 29th 2007 v Kent Pro 40 – 1 Day.

2007 Cockspur Cup Draw

At the recent AGM, Mike Taylor announced that CCC would enter the Cockspur Cup Club competition in the 2007 season. The draw has now been made and CCC will be at Home to Scholes (Cleckheaton) in the 1st Round, subsequent success will see them play Round 2, 3 and 4 games at Home with just the Group Final Away. Other teams in Group 2 include Spondon and Denby, also with a bye in Rd 1 are Ockbrook & Borrowash

Derbyshire CCC returned to Queens Park

Derbyshire played Worcestershire in a 4-day game starting Weds 26th July. the game finished in a draw with a total attendance of around 6,000 spectators for the 4 days seeing Derbyshire 351 & 409 draw with Worcestershire 497 & 82-1 (Derbys 10 pts, Worcs 12 pts). On Sunday 30th they entertained Surrey in the 1st game of their Pro40 campaign. A crowd of 2,883 saw some magnificent hitting from Surrey's Benning (66 from 59 balls) and Alistair Brown (106 from 68 balls) as they eased past Derbyshire's 203 all out with 12 overs to spare.
